The Department of Physical Education of Harbin Institute of Technology was founded in June 1988, and its predecessor, the Department of Physical Education of Harbin Institute of Technology, was founded in June 1950. In the development of more than half a century, through the hard struggle and unremitting efforts of several generations of sports workers, remarkable achievements have been made. In 2000, 1986, 1988 and 1996, Harbin Institute of Technology was awarded the titles of "Advanced School for Implementing the Interim Provisions on Physical Education in Colleges and Universities" and "Excellent College for Implementing the Physical Education Regulations in Colleges and Universities" by the Ministry of Education respectively. In 2003, Harbin Institute of Technology was awarded the title of excellent sports college in Heilongjiang Province.
