165438+ 10/0 On Friday, at the invitation of Professor Xie and Professor Xiao, we went to Wu Da to listen to a lecture on big data. Meng Tianguang, a post-80s professor in Tsinghua University, gave a very macro-system, which is summarized as follows.

Viewpoint:

1 big data is a new research method and belongs to the fourth paradigm research. It does not talk about causality, only about correlation, and predicts the future through correlation.

2 Big data research method has ended the traditional division of quantitative and qualitative research.

Visualization of big data research is an advantage.

There are also some criticisms of the four major data research methods:

Methodological criticism, feasibility criticism and ethical criticism.

Five data research methods make humanities and social science research more valuable. A new discipline, Computational Humanities and Social Sciences, has emerged, and a new research center has been established in Tsinghua University to recruit double-degree students, majoring in big data analysis.
