The origin of 2+7 mode:

University alliance originated from the "First-class University Construction Series Seminar" held by nine universities in the 985 Project. Project 985 is a systematic project, which started in May. 1998. Its goal is to give priority to some universities in Chinese mainland and become world-famous universities.

The first batch of 985 projects selected 9 universities as key support, with the goal of "creating a world-class university"; Subsequently, the 985 Project added 30 colleges and universities one after another, bringing the total number to 39. The newly added 30 colleges and universities were positioned as "creating world-renowned high-level universities".

In 2003, the presidents of the first nine universities that entered the "985 Project" held the first series of seminars on the construction of first-class universities. Since then, the meeting has been fixed and held once a year.

In 2009, the most important topic of the seventh seminar was the establishment of "C9 Alliance", aiming at * * * enjoying resources and accelerating development. Leaders of nine universities signed the Agreement on Cooperation and Exchange of Talents Training in First-class Universities.
