The PLA Army Engineering University, referred to as "Lugong University" for short, was established in 20 17 on the basis of China PLA University of Science and Technology (Project 21kloc-0/0) and China PLA Ordnance Engineering College (Project 210).

The history of running a school can be traced back to the Red Army Radio Training Course founded in Ningdu, Jiangxi, the Harbin Military Engineering Department founded in Harbin, Heilongjiang, the Ordnance Cadre Training Team founded in Zhucheng, Shandong, the Second Field Army University founded in Nanjing, Jiangsu and the Northeast Democratic Allied Engineering School founded in Tonghua, Jilin. It is a teaching and research-oriented comprehensive university that pays equal attention to personnel training and scientific research, and integrates engineering technology and operational command.

The PLA Army Engineering University is based on the fields of army signal corps, engineering corps and ordnance equipment, and radiates the whole field of army engineering support and new combat forces.

Taking undergraduate higher education, postgraduate education, non-commissioned officers' vocational and technical education and overseas students' education as the main training types, it mainly undertakes the training tasks of signal soldiers, engineers, drones, weapons and equipment support (infantry, artillery, air defense and other fields) and some emerging professional officers, as well as the undergraduate basic education of aviation pilots and aviation maintenance officers.

The former Communication Engineering School has experienced the changes of "Red Army All-in-School", "Yan 'an All-in-School", "Military Commission Engineering School", "Western Military Power" and "Communication Engineering College". It is a pioneer, builder, educator and reformer of the whole army's communication cause. 1959 is listed as one of the 20 key universities in China.
