Introduction to the University of Hong Kong The University of Hong Kong is the oldest university in Hong Kong. Over the years, we have been adhering to the fine tradition, providing excellent teachers and world-class research and development, and committed to cultivating social leaders.

HKU's predecessor was the Hong Kong College of Western Medicine, which was founded in 1887, and was formally established in191year. HKU is the first country to establish medical college, engineering college and liberal arts college. 19 161February, HKU held its first graduation ceremony. Twenty-three graduates and five honorary graduates were awarded degrees.

In the 1920s and 1930s, HKU's academic level occupied a place in the world. Before World War II, medical college, engineering college, liberal arts college and science college were established successively. After World War II, HKU actively rebuilt. In order to cope with the rapid population growth, HKU has continuously increased the enrollment and hired more high-quality teachers.

In the 1970s, HKU continued to develop rapidly, growing in step with Hong Kong, and shined brilliantly internationally.
