Founded in 1 167, Oxford University is the oldest university in Britain and the second oldest higher education institution in the world.

1 167, the king of England and the king of France had a quarrel. In a rage, the king of England recalled the British scholars who sent them to the University of Paris and prohibited them from going to the University of Paris again.

Another way of saying it is that the French king, in a fit of pique, drove British scholars back to England from the University of Paris.
