The Central Academy of Drama, directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC), is the headquarters of China Higher Drama Education Alliance, the headquarters of Asian Drama Education Research Center, the secretariat of the World Federation of Drama Colleges and Universities, and the activity base of the International University Drama Festival of the World Federation of Drama Colleges and Universities. The Central Academy of Drama is the first drama education institution in New China, and it has a UNESCO seat in drama education.

Shanghai Theatre Academy, referred to as "Shangxi" for short, is an art college in China that trains performing arts professionals. It was founded on 1945 by the Shanghai Municipal Government and the Ministry of People and Culture of China. It is one of the first master's degree awarding units approved by the State Council.
