OIST was founded on 20 1 1. It only offers doctoral courses. It is a highly internationalized elite college. 60% of its teaching staff are overseas, and about 50 students are enrolled each year, accounting for more than 80% of international students. It studies all seven directions: neuroscience, mathematics and computer science, physics, chemistry, environment and ecology, molecular cells and developmental biology. But it is leading academically, ranking tenth in the world in the proportion of excellent papers published by the publishers of the world academic magazine springer Nature, surpassing the University of Tokyo.
