The school is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education and jointly established with Jiangsu Province. The Royal Swedish Institute of Technology, technical university of munich, Leuven University, Trinity College Dublin, Monash University, tokyo institute of technology and many other world-class universities and high-level research institutions have close cooperation and exchanges.

Especially in 20 17, Southeast University initiated the establishment of "Sino-British University Engineering Education and Research Alliance", which was the first university alliance between China and Britain to feature engineering education and research. Its members included Queen Belfast University, Birmingham University, Cambridge University and Cardiff University.

Nine famous British universities, including Leeds University, Liverpool University, University College London, Nottingham University and Warwick University, joined the alliance. The school also cooperated with Monash University in Australia to establish Southeast University-Monash University Suzhou Joint Graduate School, which is the first Sino-foreign joint graduate school approved by the Ministry of Education.

In cooperation with Rennes I, France, Southeast University-Rennes I Graduate School was established.
