1960 was founded directly by the Overseas Chinese Committee of Quanzhou, Fujian Province, and a new campus was established in Xiamen in 2004. It is a comprehensive university directly under the Central United Front Work Department, jointly established by the Central United Front Work Department, the Ministry of Education and Fujian Province. It is a "double-class" university in Fujian Province and the main base for the country to carry out Chinese education overseas.
