The first category is the undergraduate course of general higher education (see: unified enrollment), which selects college graduates from full-time ordinary colleges and universities in all provinces (unified enrollment). Some provinces, such as Hebei Province, Guangdong Province, Jiangsu Province and other provinces, are called college-upgraded universities. ;

The second category is adult higher education. Four ways: including self-study, adult college entrance examination (amateur, correspondence), distance education (network education), and open education of RTVU.

Examination forms in different provinces are divided into unified examination and school examination.
