During my long time as a teacher, students often ask me, "How can I spend my college life and lay a solid foundation for the future?" Although I have held similar lectures for students at school to share my views, many years have passed and I still need to talk about this topic with different students.

I have never worried about students' ability. I appreciate their ability to seize opportunities and try new things.

I am worried about things beyond my ability, such as value cognition, imagination and dialogue with my heart. In my understanding, returning to the original heart, cognitive value and imagination are extremely important qualities of a person.

0 1 Cultivate your own charm

Sometimes when you walk on the school path, you will pass by the students. Looking at them, I always feel very kind and have my own characteristics. But after walking through different campuses in recent years, I seem to feel something is missing.

Students can always follow the trend and show their personality, but I still prefer the heroic spirit and bookish spirit in their brow. This request may be unreasonable, but I still stubbornly believe that they should be people with exploration spirit and know-how, not people with fashion and publicity.

Four years in college is very short. You can give yourself any attempt and forging, any design and arrangement, every school year, every semester, even every day, every moment. It is these different attempts and forging, design and arrangement that will make you a completely different person, which also determines your life height and personal character.

If this period is full of books, thinking, exams and ideals, with the help of classes, books and sharing, the diligence of knowledge will expand people's minds and horizons. By the end of four years, all these will become your personality characteristics and belong to your charm.

Don't be too eager for quick success, don't care too much about opportunities full of temptations, don't care too much about others' income, return to your original heart, calm down, study hard, think hard, cultivate the spirit of your own book, and let knowledge enhance your mind and imagination.

Give life more possibilities.

Unfortunately, the professionalization tendency of university education is very obvious now. When students apply for college volunteers, they are already imagining what major will be better to find a job in four years.

When students arrive at university, employment education should be only a basic choice, and cultivating students around employment should never be utilitarian.

If students only know the skills of employment, but can't have a complete mind, don't know how to face changes and setbacks, don't know how to get along with others, and don't know how to have team spirit, the problem of skills will be solved, and the problem of students' long-term development will not be solved.

People may have a variety of career choices in their life, and they will also play a role in multiple positions. In this sense, the professional knowledge you learned in college will never make you qualified for your career. You need to keep learning to make your career last.

University study really doesn't need to think too much about what to do after graduation. Going to college should be responsible for your life, not your employment choice; Be responsible for your long-term development, not your temporary work.

If you tie yourself too closely to your future career when choosing a university, and your interest in nature, society and scientific research is stifled, then university study is really a painful and boring thing. Without interest, there is no motivation to learn, and it is impossible to develop freely in an all-round way. The students trained in this way are very worrying.

I once saw Professor Chen Zhiwu introduce a viewpoint of Yale University, and I was very impressed.

In Yale University, the idea of cultivating undergraduates is: If any graduate who has been in Yale for four years becomes an expert in physics, computer, chemistry or any field after graduation from Yale, Yale will feel that it is a failure, because Yale does not want the four-year university education to train experts, so that they can be so deeply involved in one field, while ignoring the opportunity to be a person, a citizen and a person with critical thinking ability in other fields.

Yale has a big class called "Grand Strategy", which is taught by two professors who are the best at studying world history in turn. This one-year course is a very comprehensive training. Talking about Sun Tzu's Art of War, managing economy, ancient Greek strategy and so on.

I was deeply touched by Professor Chen Zhiwu's introduction. I think Yale has produced so many presidents, which has its educational function. How to work hard for the long-term development of students is the proper function of education.

When students come to university, I hope they can get mental growth besides studying professional knowledge.

Always pursue Excellence.

If we observe those who have made achievements and played a role, we will find that they have not only professional ability, but the ability to do things; What they have is not limited to professional knowledge, but the knowledge of cooperating with others and seeking growth; What they have is not limited to technology, but has the enthusiasm to understand human nature and stimulate energy; What they have is not only their confidence, but their confidence in others and society.

In fact, when we graduate from college, we can't make a lifelong career choice. Every career choice and development will have a comprehensive effect of many factors.

However, one thing is certain. A person who always pursues Excellence can make valuable contributions at any career stage, develop in any field, and become a person who makes a difference.

So I think for college students, no matter what they do in society, I always hope they can pursue Excellence and do their best. As long as they do this, their dreams will come true.

I am a university teacher and also engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry. I majored in radio technology in college. After graduation, I went to teach in the Department of Social Sciences, then transferred to the School of Business Administration, and then worked part-time in the enterprise as the chairman and CEO. Judging from the process of a person's career development, a person will engage in various occupations or industries, as long as you are fully prepared.

I know a chairman of the agriculture and animal husbandry industry. He graduated from Peking University, and now he is selling pork, doing well. When people explore why he can sell pork well, the conclusion is that he graduated from Peking University. I like this story and this college graduate, because no matter in any industry, as long as you decide to do it, you will do it well, because you are a college graduate.

It is a very good thing that college graduates now have diversified career orientations. On the one hand, it shows that employment channels are more abundant, on the other hand, it shows that students have stronger employment adaptability.

We see that even in the same major, students have developed in different industries, and many people have developed smoothly. This is undoubtedly the real training in universities, not only mastering knowledge and skills, but also having the quality of all-round development. The universities cultivated in this way are good universities.

Richard levin, the president of Yale University for 20 years, once said: Real education is the spirit of freedom, the responsibility of citizens, lofty aspirations, critical independent thinking, constant self-awareness, the foundation of lifelong learning and the ability to obtain happiness. Real education does not impart any knowledge and skills, but it can make people competent for any subject and occupation. This is education, and it is also the standard to judge whether a person is educated or not.
