Lanzhou Jiaotong University, located in Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu Province, is a university jointly established by China Railway Corporation, the State Railway Administration and the provincial departments of Gansu Provincial People's Government. The Education and Training Plan for Outstanding Engineers of the Ministry of Education has been selected into universities, the Model School for Deepening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform of the Ministry of Education, the Education Revitalization Plan for the Midwest of the Ministry of Education has supported universities, and high-level universities and "first-class disciplines" in Gansu Province have been built.

In February 2020, China Railway Corporation signed an agreement with Gansu Provincial People's Government to jointly build Lanzhou Jiaotong University. In May, Gansu Provincial Department of Transportation signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Lanzhou Jiaotong University. In July, Gansu Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Lanzhou Jiaotong University.
