Southwest University of Political Science and Law is located in Chongqing, a famous historical and cultural city and the only municipality directly under the central government in the central and western regions. It is the earliest institution of higher learning in politics and law in New China. After the reform and opening up, the Ministry of Education and the Chongqing Municipal People's Government jointly established the first batch of national key universities, the first batch of national excellent legal talents education and training bases, and the engineering university of basic capacity building in central and western universities.

The school has three campuses: Shapingba Campus, Yubei Campus and Baoshenghu Campus, covering an area of more than 3,000 mu. Among them, Yubei Campus is an undergraduate and postgraduate education and teaching center, Shapingba Campus is a base for continuing education and cadre training, and Baoshenghu Campus is a base for scientific research, innovation and entrepreneurship.
