Zhejiang Ocean University School was founded in 1958, formerly known as Zhoushan Fisheries College, renamed as Zhejiang Fisheries College in 1975, and merged with Zhoushan Normal College in 1998 to form Zhejiang Ocean College. After 2000, Zhoushan Health School, Zhejiang Fisheries School, Zhejiang Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Zhoushan Petrochemical School and Zhoushan Commercial School were merged successively.

Zhejiang Ocean University has two provincial-level disciplines, two A's and seven B's, among which marine science ranks fifth in the fourth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education and aquatic products ranks eighth. It has nine first-class master's degree authorization points in marine science, aquatic products, marine engineering, oil and gas engineering, food science and engineering, agricultural and forestry economic management, mechanical engineering, mathematics and water conservancy engineering, and five professional master's degree authorization points in transportation, agriculture, education, tourism management and pharmacy, and has the same academic ability to grant master's degrees.
There are 48 undergraduate majors, including 5 national first-class undergraduate majors, 2 national characteristic majors, 14 provincial first-class undergraduate majors, 9 provincial key majors, 7 provincial dominant majors and 8 provincial characteristic majors. There are 12 1 19 full-time students; Faculty 1 189, including 846 full-time teachers.
