Southwest Jiaotong University, referred to as "Southwest Jiaotong University", is located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. It is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC). It is jointly built by the Ministry of Education, China Railway Corporation, Sichuan Province and Chengdu. Ranked among the first world-class discipline construction universities in China, it is a research university focusing on the innovation platform of 21KLOC-0/Engineering and 985 Engineering Advantage Discipline.

The school started from 1896 Shanhaiguan Beiyang Railway Official School. Since then, it has been moved and renamed many times. Tangshan Jiaotong University enjoys a good reputation at home and abroad, and is known as the "Cornell of the East", especially in civil engineering, mining and metallurgy. From 65438 to 0952, the department was renamed Tangshan Railway Institute after adjustment, specializing in the training of rail transit talents.

1964 The school moved to Emei, and 1972 was named Southwest Jiaotong University. 1989 The main body of the school moved to Chengdu. In 2000, the school was placed under the management of the Ministry of Education.
