What is the National Open University?
The Open University of China (China Central Radio and TV University), referred to as the Central Radio and TV University, is a university located in Beijing, People's Republic of China (PRC), focusing on distance education (through radio, television and the Internet).

The predecessor of National Open University is Central Radio and TV University.

In July of 20 10, the Outline of Education Planning put forward the idea of "running an open university well". In July of 20 10, the State Council issued the Notice on Launching the Pilot Work of National Education System Reform, and identified Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Yunnan and China Central Radio and TV University as the pilot units for "exploring the construction mode of open universities".

In August, 2020, the Party Group of the Ministry of Education deliberated and passed the Comprehensive Reform Plan of the National Open University issued by the Ministry of Education, clearly demanding that the National Open University be built into the main platform (four platforms) for lifelong education, online education, flexible education and foreign cooperation, marking the transformation and upgrading of RTVU and the high-quality development of the Open University entering a new stage.

Under the leadership of the Ministry of Education, the school co-ordinates the construction of the national open education system, guides and serves the national open education, strives to build a public service platform for lifelong learning, provides lifelong education and services for the whole people, and promotes "everyone can learn, learn everywhere and learn for life". The Ministry of Education manages and guides the education and teaching work of the National Open University with reference to institutions of higher learning.

Development achievements

Over the past 40 years, the school has enrolled more than 20.5 million students of all kinds and trained 1.5 1.2 million graduates.

There are 238 majors (directions) with enrollment qualifications, including 3 undergraduate majors (directions) 13 in senior high school, 58 undergraduate majors (directions) and 67 junior college majors (directions) 167. There are 43 10000 students in higher education, 70% of whom are from the grassroots and 55% are in the central and western regions.
