Nantong University, referred to as "Tongda", is located in Nantong City, Jiangsu Province. It is a comprehensive university jointly established by the People's Government of Jiangsu Province and the Ministry of Transport. It is a Class B construction university of Jiangsu Province's high-level university construction peak plan, and a national pilot university of "Excellent Doctor Education Training Plan" and "Excellent Teacher Training Plan".
It is the national advanced collective for graduates' employment, the national advanced unit for entrepreneurship education research and practice, the first batch of innovative and entrepreneurial demonstration universities in Jiangsu Province, the first batch of advanced universities in Jiangsu Province for teaching, the national advanced unit for spiritual civilization construction, and the spiritual birthplace of the national typical "Mo Wensui" for spiritual civilization construction.
The school originated from the private Nantong Medical College and Nantong Textile College founded by famous industrialist and educator Zhang Jianyu in modern times 19 12. In 2004, the former Nantong Medical College, Nantong Institute of Technology and Nantong Teachers College merged to form the new Nantong University. 20 13 became the authorized unit of doctoral degree.

There are 20 colleges, 1 Independent College (Xinglin College), 1 Large-scale comprehensive 3A hospital (Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University) and College of International Education and Continuing Education, offering 104 undergraduate majors.
