The new campus of University of South China is located in Ertang Village, Yumushan Township, zhengxiang district, with an estimated investment of 590 million yuan and land acquisition of10.2 million mu. The scale of 40,000 students is planned from the aspects of land use, pipe network, transportation and ecology. The overall design emphasizes the synchronization of "campus+area, inside wall+outside wall" and strives to create an "ecological university city".

Relevant leaders and experts from Hunan Province, Hengyang City and University of South China strictly reviewed the design schemes provided by Tsinghua University, Tongji University, Zhejiang University and South China University of Technology Planning and Design Institute. They had a heated discussion on the planning structure and overall layout, functional zoning, traffic organization, ecological campus landscape features and architectural style of the two successful candidates, analyzed their respective characteristics and shortcomings, and finally finalized the plan B provided by South China University of Technology. According to this design scheme, the building of the new campus of University of South China conforms to the rugged terrain, with its back facing the mountains and water, and is embedded in the mountains with the courtyard layout, which realizes the maximum integration of architecture and ecological space, and embodies the modern academy characteristics of "the mountain is in the middle and the school is in the mountain".
