The Criminal Investigation College of Southwest University of Political Science and Law belongs to politics and law, not public security. School of Criminal Investigation of Southwest University of Political Science and Law was founded in 1979. The investigation specialty established in the same year is the first undergraduate specialty of investigation approved by the Ministry of Education in China. In 2000, on the basis of the specialized course of forensic expertise started in 1986, the undergraduate major of criminal science and technology was established.

In 2002, the public security undergraduate major was added, and in 2005, the economic crime investigation major was added.
