Chengdu University of Technology is a double-class university.

Chengdu University of Technology, referred to as "Li Cheng", is located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. It is a key university jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Sichuan Province. It is a national "double-first-class" construction university, and has been selected into "11plan", outstanding engineer education and training plan, national college students' innovation and entrepreneurship training plan, and basic capacity building project of central and western universities.

Approved by the State Council on 1956, the school was established on the basis of the Department of Geology of Chongqing University, the Department of Engineering of Nanjing University and the Department of Geology of Northwest University. At the same time, some cadres and teachers from Beijing Institute of Geology (China University of Geology), Northeast Institute of Geology (Jilin University) and Jiaotong University were transferred to form Chengdu Institute of Geology.

After the school was founded, the petroleum departments, departments 2 and 3 of Beijing Institute of Geology moved in. Postgraduates begin to enroll students 1960. 1993 was renamed Chengdu Institute of Technology, and was approved as a key university directly under the Ministry in the same year. The school has been directly under the Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Land and Resources. In 2000, it was jointly established by the central and local governments and mainly managed by the Sichuan Provincial People's Government.
