Introduction to academic system
British masters are divided into two types: teaching type and research type. Most of them are applied courses, and a small number of students who have plans for further study will apply for research-oriented master's degrees. Usually, the teaching-oriented master's academic system is 1 year, and the research-oriented master's academic system is 2 years.
First, teaching-oriented graduate students
Teaching graduate students usually have a one-year academic system, and the courses are mainly composed of lectures, seminars, exams, papers and other forms. Most graduate students studying in Britain apply for teaching courses, and they can get a master's degree certificate in only one year, which is relatively cost-effective, and is also very suitable for students who want to upgrade their academic qualifications and learn professional knowledge.
In addition, many schools also offer Postgraduate Diploma (Pg Dip) or Postgraduate Certificate (PGCE) courses, which generally last for nine months, excluding the final thesis, and some diploma courses can be converted into master's courses after the end.
Common master's degree types: MSC- Master of Science, MA- Master of Literature, MBA- Master of Business Administration, LLM- Master of Law, Meng- Master of Engineering, MC hem- Master of Chemistry, MFA- Master of Literature.
Another MLitt is also a master of arts, and classical universities such as Oxford University and St Andrews University will offer this degree.
Second, research-oriented graduate students.
Research graduate students are usually 1 year or 2 years, and the courses are mainly conducted through project research. This kind of course is suitable for students who want to do academic research or continue their doctoral studies.
General degree types: Master of Philosophy-Master of Philosophy, MRES- Master of Research.
Third, the application conditions
To apply for postgraduate courses in the UK, you usually need to obtain a second-class honorary bachelor's degree from a British university, while G5 University usually needs a first-class or second-class honorary bachelor's degree. In addition, some courses also require a professional background, and applications without relevant courses or backgrounds will be rejected.
Language requirements are also one of the conditions that must be met to study in the UK. Apply for IELTS for British graduate students, with a total score of not less than 6.0 and a single item of not less than 5.5. The general requirement is 6.5. The specific requirements of IELTS are related to the colleges and majors that you apply for. Those who fail to meet the corresponding requirements can choose language courses.
Learning duration
Basically, when you get the offer, you will be informed to report to the school at the end of September. If there are special circumstances, you can apply to the school to postpone the registration time. For example, according to Xiao Wei, some students lost their visas and passports during this period, and it may take time to deal with emergencies, so you must be fully prepared. Of course, some students may need to arrive in Britain in June and July to study in a language school, which is another matter.
Then the first week after arriving in England is not a class, but a welcome week, which gives students time to get familiar with the environment. One day, students will be required to get relevant certificates, input information and take photos, get student ID cards, and go to the student center to verify their certificates, and then all teaching systems and mailboxes can be activated.
One day, I will meet all the teachers and learn about the credit system and elective courses in advance. At the same time, we will also choose class representatives and student representatives to learn about community activities. Although it's only one year, you can still participate in the colorful club life of the school, integrate into the local culture and practice your spoken English.
After that, classes will be officially started from 10. Generally speaking, graduate students in Britain will be divided into three semesters, and each semester will end before the big holiday. There are four courses each semester, and each course is taught for an average of 30 hours. For example, the first semester will end in the middle and late June, 65438+February, that is, before the Christmas holiday. Many courses will have mid-term papers and final papers, and courses without papers may end with exams.
The mid-term paper will basically be submitted at the end of 1654381late October+early February of 65438, and the final paper may be submitted before or after the Christmas holiday. Generally, the final exam will be held after the festival, that is, from the beginning of June to the middle of 1 month in 65438.
Take a few days off after the final exam, and enter the second semester from 65438+ 10 in the middle and late June. The content of the course is almost the same as that of the first semester. Basically, there are four courses, and each course teaches about 30 class hours. Submit the mid-term paper at the end of February and early March, and submit the final paper in the middle and late March. After that, the school entered the Easter holiday, handed in papers in early May, and took the final exam from mid-late May to early June. The school calendar of each school is different, and the summary here is only the approximate time.
After the exam, many students enter the holiday stage by default, and then travel or return to China. But this is not the case. From June to the end of September, the school calls it the third semester, which is the time for students to prepare their graduation thesis and graduation design.
During these three months, middle school students should prepare according to the topic of their graduation thesis or works, including a certain amount of communication with the instructor, searching for materials and sorting out documents, and completing the writing of graduation thesis. General graduation thesis DDL is submitted in mid-September or at the end of September. At this point, the whole year of study is completely over.
Graduate graduation ceremony will be held in mid-June+February, 5438, when graduation certificates will be officially issued, and graduate career will be officially ended.
