Mild skin injury can be cured quickly through routine dressing change treatment and daily care, but some wounds may be difficult to heal in a short time. If we don't pay attention to them, we may turn small wounds into big problems or even lifelong regrets. At the beginning of this year, the Second Hospital of Zhejiang University admitted a patient, Ms. Liu (pseudonym), 47 years old, whose wound had not healed for many years and was found to have evolved into squamous cell carcinoma.
After the examination of old injuries 27 years ago, it was found to be cancer.
Ms. Liu's hometown is deep in the mountains, with simple folk customs. Twenty-seven years ago, she had just been married for less than a year and suffered a bizarre car accident. The wheel of a motor vehicle directly ran over her right heel, causing the skin of her right heel to tear. Drivers also work for people, and their families are not well off. At that time, a little medical expenses passed.
However, the wound on Ms. Liu's right heel is getting worse day by day, and the torn skin gradually turns black and necrotic. She went to the small clinic in the village to get some "purple potion" for external application and change the medicine at home. Her husband found the wound on her right foot, and because it didn't look big, he didn't take it to heart, thinking that it would always be better to change the medicine for a long time.
In this way, Ms. Liu walked with her feet up for 27 years. In these 27 years, she gave birth to her son and sent him to college. During these 27 years, she watched the family gradually get rid of poverty and start to live a well-off life. At the end of 20 19, I heard that the Burn Department of the Second Hospital of Zhejiang University specializes in treating difficult wounds, so my husband took her on the high-speed train for several hours.
Her wound was in the heel of her right foot, and the egg-sized wound was covered with granulation of aging and edema. After X-ray examination and pathological examination, the doctor found a huge cavity in the calcaneus below her granulation, suggesting that the car accident injury many years ago was complicated with calcaneal fracture. Although it can't develop into osteomyelitis, it makes local wounds difficult to heal. What is even more unacceptable is that the pathological examination results suggest squamous cell carcinoma of the right heel.
The probability of canceration of chronic wounds will increase with time.
"In the case of excluding systemic metastasis, it is necessary to design a scientific and reasonable wound repair plan for a complex malignant ulcer wound like this, which not only completely removes the lesion, but also preserves the limb function as much as possible." Wang Xingang, deputy director of the Burn Department, the chief physician, recalled, "We finally designed a surgical plan of' local ulcer enlarged resection+osteotome+bone cement filling+retrograde sural nerve nutrient vascular flap transfer', which helped patients achieve the treatment goal of lesion clearance and functional reconstruction."
Acute skin injury caused by various factors is very common in daily production, life and work. If the skin injury is expected to heal, there will generally be no major problems.
If the acute skin injury does not heal for more than one month, it will turn into a chronic wound. With the extension of non-healing time, the probability of cancer will increase greatly, and if it is not treated in time, it will even lead to the spread of cancer cells throughout the body or amputation.
In order to prevent small wounds from becoming big problems, it is suggested to go to a professional window wound treatment center or outpatient clinic in time and take effective wound treatment measures in time to minimize the risk of possible cancer.
