Liaoning University of Engineering Science is a university approved by the people's governments of state administration of work safety and Liaoning Province. It is one of the 88 key universities in China, which implements basic capacity building projects in the central and western regions of China.

The first batch of demonstration universities in China to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education, universities implementing the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan" of the Ministry of Education, key construction units of domestic high-level universities in Liaoning Province, and member units of CDIO Engineering Education Alliance.

The school was founded in 1949, formerly known as Fuxin Engineering Senior Vocational School; 1952 was renamed Fuxin Mining (Technology) School; 1958 was renamed Fuxin coal mine institute.

1978 was renamed Fuxin mining institute; 198 1 approved the first batch of master's degree-granting units; 1993 was approved as a doctoral degree awarding unit; 1996 was renamed and upgraded to Liaoning University of Engineering Technology.
