Founded in 1789, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is the top research university in the world and the first public university in American history. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is one of the top five public universities in the United States. It is also one of the original eight universities of "Public Ivy" and one of the 25 schools of "New Ivy".
Campus landscape
1932 UNC became one of the three original campuses of the reorganized University of North Carolina. 1963, the reorganized university realized full coeducation. Accordingly, the Women's College of the University of North Carolina was renamed the University of North Carolina at Green Sboro, and the University of North Carolina itself became the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
