Nanjing University is one of the earliest institutions in China to carry out environmental science research and teaching. 1994 environmental science has become a key discipline in Jiangsu province, and 1996 has been included in the "21/engineering" discipline group construction plan of Nanjing University. Our college is the first director unit, the second and third deputy director unit of the Environmental Science Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, a member unit of the Environmental Science and Engineering Discipline Evaluation Group of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, and one of the emerging disciplines that Nanjing University has focused on developing in the "Education Revitalization Action Plan of the Ministry of Education (985 Project, the same below)". Environmental chemistry mainly studies organic pollution chemistry, forms and bioavailability of heavy metals, environmental analytical chemistry and other fields. The research on the quantitative relationship between the structure of organic pollutants and their physical and chemical properties and biological activities, the speciation analysis of rare earth elements, the research on environmental behavior and biological effectiveness, the screening of priority organic poisons and the monitoring technology of persistent pollutants in microenvironment, the mechanism and technology of repairing damaged environment, the formation mechanism of mutagenic precursors in drinking water and the research on advanced oxidation technologies such as photocatalytic oxidation have formed characteristics and advantages.
