Dalian polytechnic university, founded in 1958, is one of the earliest four light industrial colleges in China. Originally belonging to the Ministry of Light Industry, 1998 was transformed into a system built by the central and local governments and managed by Liaoning Province. In March 2007, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was renamed dalian polytechnic university from Dalian Institute of Light Industry.

At present, the school has 15 colleges (departments), 54 general undergraduate majors, 3 Chinese-foreign cooperative undergraduate majors and 3 English-teaching undergraduate majors (studying in China). Among them, the school was approved by the first batch of comprehensive reform pilot majors of undergraduate majors in 1 national "undergraduate teaching project" local universities, and 3 majors passed the engineering education certification of the Ministry of Education.

Discipline construction:

The school was selected as the first batch of "double-first-class" key construction universities in Liaoning Province, and three first-class disciplines, namely, food science and engineering, light industry technology and engineering, and textile science and engineering, were selected as the first-class key construction disciplines of universities in Liaoning Province.

At the end of 20021,the doctoral program of "Food Safety and Quality Management Project" in two disciplines, which was independently added by the school on the basis of the first-class discipline of food science and engineering, passed the record in the degree center of the Ministry of Education and was approved, becoming the first independent doctoral program in this field in China.
