Hunan University originated from Yuelu Academy, which was founded in 976 AD, and was transformed into Hunan College in 1903. 1926 was named as the provincial Hunan university, 1953 became the government 15 national university, and 1953 was renamed as the Central South Institute of Civil Engineering and Architecture in the national department adjustment.
