Beijing Institute of Geology is now called China University of Geology.

China Geo University, developed from Beijing Institute of Geology, is a high-level, comprehensive and research-oriented university with a high reputation in the international geoscience community. The school features earth science and engineering technology and has made outstanding contributions to earth science in China. It is the first batch of "2 1 1 Project" and "985 Project" key construction universities.

The original site of the College is located in China Geo University (Beijing) Campus, No.29 Xueyuan Road, Haidian District, Beijing.

College was established in Beijing 1952, which was formed by the merger of Peking University, Tsinghua University, Beiyang University (now Tianjin University) and Geology Department (branch school) of Tangshan Railway Institute.

Academy was one of the eight famous academies on Xueyuan Road at that time.

President Mao Zedong appointed Comrade Liu Xing as the first president of Beijing Institute of Geology (attached with the letter of appointment of President Mao Zedong).

With the construction of eight colleges, a main road named Xueyuan Road has been built from south to north in the college area.

Beijing Agricultural Mechanization College (now China Agricultural University),

China Geo University (Beijing) and China Geo University (Wuhan) were established in Beijing (namely, graduate department of Wuhan Geo University) and Wuhan (the main body of Wuhan Geo University) respectively.
