The school, formerly known as Chengdu Institute of Telecommunications Engineering, was formed by the merger of Jiaotong University (now Shanghai Jiaotong University and Xi Jiaotong University), Nanjing Institute of Technology (now Southeast University) and South China University of Technology (now South China University of Technology). 1956.
