Chongqing University is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education, a high-level research-oriented comprehensive university focused on the national "2 1 1 Project" and "985 Project", and a national "World-class University Construction University (Class A)".

Founded in 1929, the school developed into a national comprehensive university with six colleges of arts, science, engineering, business, law and medicine in the 1940s. 1998, the school became the national "2 1 1 project" key construction university.
