Southwest University is a key comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC) and a key construction school of "2 1 1" project. It was formed by the merger of former Southwest Normal University and former Southwest Agricultural University in July 2005. Southwest University Law School was established in April 2006, based on the former Law Department of Southwest Normal University School of Politics and Law and the former Law Department of Southwest Agricultural University School of Humanities. It is one of the important supporting colleges of Southwest University.

The college has a long history. 65438-0985, the former Southwest Normal University applied to the Ministry of Education to set up a law undergraduate major and was approved, becoming one of the earliest normal universities in China to set up a law major. 65438-0987, the law major officially enrolled students nationwide. 1993, the law major of School of Humanities, Southwest Agricultural University was established. In 2003, the former Law Department of Southwest Normal University obtained LLM degree authorization point and began to recruit graduate students. On April 30, 2006, Southwest University Law School was formally established. Professor Wu Guangqian, Professor Wei, Professor Wang Li, Professor Zhao Yunfen have successively served as the heads of law majors. The current dean is Professor Zhang Xinmin.

College teachers have a good foundation and a reasonable academic structure. There are 50 faculty members, including professor 10 and associate professor (associate researcher) 12. Full-time teachers mainly come from Peking University, China Renmin University, Wuhan University, China University of Political Science and Law and other well-known law schools, of which more than 90% have master's degrees, and some teachers have doctor of law and master's degrees from Britain, Australia, Japan and other countries. The college has hired dozens of famous jurists such as Jiang Ping, Zeng, Zeng, Sun Changyong and judges and prosecutors with rich experience in judicial practice as part-time professors.

The college has a perfect discipline system and strong scientific research strength. At present, there are six teaching and research sections, including theoretical law, criminal law, civil economic law, procedural law, practical education and bilingualism, and three scientific research institutions, namely, the three rural legal research centers, the social policy and legal research center and the criminal justice research center. Many teachers have presided over many national, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects, such as the National Social Science Fund Project, the National Rule of Law and Legal Theory Research Project of the Ministry of Justice, and the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Project of the Ministry of Education.

Universities have good conditions for running schools. The college reference room has tens of thousands of Chinese and foreign professional books and a large number of video materials; There are modern academic lecture halls and conference rooms; The judicial technology laboratory and legal clinic are advanced in equipment, and can carry out practical teaching activities such as mock trial, mock arbitration, trace inspection and legal clinic. In 2009, the College and Beijing Xinqidian Judicial Examination Training School jointly established the National Judicial Examination Training Center.

The College attaches great importance to foreign exchanges, and has conducted exchanges with law schools, legal experts and judges in Germany, the United States, Britain, Japan, Thailand and Taiwan Province. The college has many levels, including full-time undergraduate, full-time postgraduate, postgraduate courses, minor in law, online distance education and various forms of adult education. There are about 600 full-time undergraduates and about 2 10 graduate students.
