The school was founded in 1952, and was originally the Guangxi branch of the Central University for Nationalities (now the Central University for Nationalities). 1953 was renamed Guangxi University for Nationalities, and 1958 was renamed Guangxi University for Nationalities in 2006.

The school has three campuses: Xiangsihu Campus, Hu Siyuan Campus and Wuming Campus, covering an area of about 3,600 mu, with a campus construction area of 887,298 square meters, with a total value of 423 million yuan for teaching and research equipment, a library collection of 65,438+8,788,900 books and 7,237,600 e-books.
