Hebei Polytechnic University generally refers to North China University of Science and Technology. North China University of Science and Technology, located in Tangshan City, Hebei Province, is a provincial key university.

The school was formed by the merger of Hebei Polytechnic University and North China Coal Medical College, formerly known as Hebei United University.

Hebei Polytechnic University, formerly known as Beiyang Western Mining Institute, was founded in 1895. Founded in 1958, the Department of Mining and Metallurgy of Tianjin University was merged in 1959. Previously, the names of Tangshan Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and Hebei Institute of Technology were used. North China Coal Medical College, formerly Kailuan Senior Nurse Vocational School, was founded in 1926. 1963 Tangshan Coal Medical College was founded by a group of backbone teachers from Beijing Medical College, Peking Union Medical College and Tianjin Medical College. 1984 was renamed North China Coal Medical College.
