Hainan University, referred to as Haida for short, is located in Haikou City, the capital of Hainan Province, a national historical and cultural city. It is a comprehensive key university in Hainan Province, a key university under construction by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance, and a national key university under "21/Project", "National Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan" and "National Excellent Legal Talents Education and Training Plan". The first batch of national agricultural and forestry talents education and training plan reform pilot universities and the national "comprehensive strength improvement project of central and western universities" were selected as universities, and they are the main members of the "Central and Western University Alliance".
In August 2007, the school was formed by the merger of the former South China University of Tropical Agriculture and the former Hainan University.
As of April 20 14, Hainan University has three campuses: Haidian, Chengxi and Danzhou. Haidian Campus is the main campus, with a total campus area of more than 5,200 mu (about 34 1.5 million square meters).
