Xi Jiaotong University is the earliest well-known institution of higher learning in China and a key university directly under the Ministry of Education.

Sheng Xuanhuai, a famous industrialist and educator in modern times, insisted on the belief that "self-improvement first lies in talent storage, and talent storage must first promote learning". Nanyang College 1896 was founded in Shanghai, and 192 1 was named Jiaotong University. The school adheres to the tenet of "seeking truth from facts and being pragmatic" and emphasizes the goal of "cultivating first-class character, seeking first-class knowledge, creating first-class career and becoming first-class talents". In the 1920s and 1930s, a famous university with unique characteristics of "scientific and technological management" was formed, and it was known as "Massachusetts Institute of Technology" in the East. During the Anti-Japanese War, the school moved to the concession, moved to Chongqing, and insisted on running schools in Shanghai and Chongqing. In order to resist foreign aggression, many students joined the army and fought bloody battles. On the eve of liberation, teachers and students actively participated in the democratic revolution and liberation struggle, and the school was known as the "democratic fortress".
The school is a comprehensive research university with the characteristics of science and engineering, covering science, engineering, medicine, economics, management, literature, law, philosophy, teaching, art and so on 10.
