Recently, Sichuan University caused a heated discussion among netizens due to the enrollment propaganda and the Zhangwei subway incident. Many people question the enrollment standards and study style of Sichuan University, and think that Sichuan University is not like 985 University, but like a dating website.
The enrollment propaganda of Sichuan University focuses on high-value students, attracting candidates with some simple or even vulgar slogans. For example, "I want to come to Sichuan University alone", "I want to walk with you on the campus of Sichuan University" and so on. These propaganda not only failed to reflect the academic level and cultural background of Sichuan University, but made people feel that Sichuan University was showing off its appearance and judging people by appearances.
What is even more infuriating is that Zhang Wei, a graduate student of Sichuan University, accused a migrant worker of secretly photographing her on the subway for no reason, and made her photos and information public on social platforms, which triggered serious cyber violence. Afterwards, it was proved that the migrant workers did not take pictures of her, but she did not sincerely apologize. Instead, she said, "Nothing, don't shoot others." This arrogant and rude attitude is unbearable.
It turns out that Zhang Wei is party member, a graduate student recommended by Henan University to Sichuan University. She should have high moral character and good quality, but she inflated herself because of her appearance and slandered and insulted the vulnerable groups such as migrant workers for no reason. She not only brought trouble to herself, but also brought bad influence to Sichuan University.
The school did not show its due attitude and sense of responsibility in dealing with this matter. They did not seriously deal with and educate Zhang Wei, nor did they effectively communicate and explain to the public. They just said that it should be handled according to the law and regulations, and did not give specific measures and results. It seems that they are protecting Zhang Wei, not the reputation of the school.
In my opinion, Sichuan University, as a famous school, should have its own characteristics and style. We should highlight the advantages and characteristics of the school in the enrollment propaganda, instead of attracting attention in some superficial and vulgar ways. At the same time, there should be principles and bottom lines in dealing with students' problems, and we should not tolerate them because of certain individual or collective interests. Only in this way can we truly reflect the style and standards of famous schools.
