Guilin University of Technology, referred to as "Guigong" for short, is located in Guilin, a world-famous scenic city and historical and cultural city. Jointly built by the central and local governments, it is a basic capacity-building project for universities in central and western China, and it is also a national education and training plan for outstanding engineers 2.0. It is a multidisciplinary university focusing on engineering, science, management, literature, economics, law and art.

The school originated from Guilin Geological School established in Guangxi by the former Ministry of Heavy Industry 1956. After five changes of ownership and ten changes of school name, it developed.

Among them, the school was renamed Guilin Institute of Metallurgical Geology on 1978 and started undergraduate education; 1993 was renamed Guilin institute of technology; 1998, the school was transformed into a central local * * * building, and the daily management was mainly local; In 2000 and 2004, the former Nanning Nonferrous Metals Industry School and Guilin Normal School for Nationalities were merged into the school. In 2009, it was renamed Guilin University of Technology.
