The history of the college can be traced back to the technical secondary school of Shanghai Maritime University, which was founded in 1958. 1975 was founded in the name of "July 1st Staff University", 1978 Shanghai Maritime Staff University was approved by the Ministry of Communications.
In 2000, the State Council implemented the education system reform, and the Ministry of Communications officially moved Shanghai Maritime Staff University. In 200 1 year, with the approval of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and the consent of the Ministry of Education, Shanghai Maritime Staff University was transformed from an adult college into an ordinary college of Shanghai Maritime Vocational and Technical College.
