Beijing Normal University covers an area of 738,779 square meters with a building area of 520,000 square meters. Full-time students 19500, including 8529 undergraduates, 8999 graduate students, 20 long-term international students, more than 20000 students in various networks and continuing education, and more than 3000 faculty members, including 2 190 teachers. There are 24 colleges, 2 departments and 20 research institutes (institutes and centers). At present, the collection of documents reaches 3.57 million volumes, and there are nearly 190 Chinese and foreign language databases. The annual research funding increased from 62.88 million yuan in 2000 to 254 million yuan in 2007. The per capita scientific research achievement is in the leading position in universities all over the country.

During the Seventh Five-Year Plan and the Eighth Five-Year Plan, it was identified as one of the first ten key universities in China. It was included in the "2 1 1 project" construction plan for the first time during the Ninth Five-Year Plan period.
