The University of Hong Kong Grants Committee launched the Area of Excellence Scheme on 1997. Among all the 18 field projects, the University of Hong Kong hosted 8 projects and participated in 6 in cooperation with other institutions.
By the end of 20 13, the University of Hong Kong has completed two projects, namely, economic and commercial strategy and drug synthesis and research and development. The modeling and simulation research of marine environment, large-scale epidemic, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, bone diseases, polymer materials and emerging electronics are still in progress.
