Since 1993, the Department of Education of Shanxi University has added the undergraduate specialty of applied psychology, 1997 has enrolled 36 undergraduates, and 1999 has enrolled 20 undergraduates. Since 1999, applied psychology has started enrolling students every year. During the period of 2004-2005, two classes were enrolled every year, and the enrollment scale became larger and larger. Over the past 20 years, 1000 graduates majoring in applied psychology have achieved employment rates close to 100%. Graduates are distributed in more than ten provinces and cities in China, such as Shanxi, Shaanxi, Hebei, Zhejiang and Beijing, and most of them are employed in party and government organs, industrial and commercial enterprises, medical and judicial schools and scientific research units. The work ability and professionalism of graduates have been well received by employers. In recent years, the postgraduate entrance examination rate of this major has also reached 30%, which has sent a large number of talents to Beijing Normal University, Shandong Normal University, Sichuan University, Nankai University and other institutions of higher learning.

According to the training goal of applied psychology, we not only require students to complete the study of psychology-related courses, but also provide them with a lot of internship and practice opportunities. Among them, the course practice is arranged in a short semester in autumn. Through four weeks of lectures and visits, students gradually understand the application of psychology in life while consolidating the theoretical knowledge they have learned in class. Graduation practice, as a compulsory practical course, is arranged in the third semester of the third year of college, lasting for eight weeks. At present, psychological practice bases have been established in many units, and interns are sent to practice in various units every May. These practice bases include universities (such as Rushan University Business School), where students enter departments to carry out mental health education and consultation. There are also medical institutions such as mental health centers, where students act as assistants to assist doctors in relevant departments to carry out their daily work, that is, to understand the relevant theories and technologies of mental health and promote students' self-growth; Of course, our practice base also has specialized institutions, such as juvenile detention centers and women's prisons. During the internship in these institutions, students will give psychological lectures or group counseling as needed. After the internship, students should not only complete their internship assignments, but also hold an internship summary meeting in the teaching and research section. Students who practice in different units will share their feelings and gains and losses with each other. In addition, the internship collection is also an indispensable part of graduation internship. Students choose their own materials, write their own articles, make their own typesetting, and save their two-month harvest in the form of words.
