Peking University Student Choir (PKUSC) was founded in September 1990. Its members are non-music majors from more than 20 departments in Peking University. Today, under the leadership of Ms. Hou Xijin, the conductor and head of the choir, the choir has become an internationally renowned choir, holding many concerts and singing a large number of China folk songs, classical works and contemporary music in Chinese, English, French, German, Spanish, Russian and other languages. The choir holds concerts and performances, some of which are held in cooperation with professional orchestras and choirs. The choir often appeared in major TV stations in China, and its first CD was released on April 1998.
The choir participated in many music festivals and competitions in China and won many awards. 1997 As the only representative from Asia, the choir participated in the 43rd Habanella and Polyphonic Music International Competition held in Torrevieja, Spain, and won the gold medal in polyphonic music, which was the first time that the China University Choir won an international award. 1998, its MTV Farewell won the National Silver Award of CCTV. In 2005, the choir won two first prizes in the China University Student Concert Singing Competition. In 2005, the choir held the15th anniversary concert, which won wide recognition again.
