Jinan University began continuing education in the early 1980s. During the period from 1982 to 1986, amateur education classes, professional courses for cadres, night universities and full-time classes for adult education were held successively. Adult Education College was formally established in July, 1986, which is responsible for the unified management of adult higher education teaching management and non-academic vocational training at home and abroad.

According to the European Times, a delegation from Jinan University headed by Zhang Hong, vice president of Jinan University, visited Rome on September 27th, 20th16th.

The delegation first visited the Chinese Embassy in Italy. Counselor Yao Cheng of the Chinese Embassy in Italy met with the delegation and exchanged views with them on developing Chinese education and attracting overseas Chinese children to Jinan University for further study. Subsequently, the delegation went to the seat of the Italian Overseas Chinese Trade Association and had a discussion with the heads of some related Chinese schools.

After the discussion, the delegation also visited an educational institution in China near Vittorio Square in Rome. During the discussion between the two sides, Zhang Hong, vice president of Jinan University, introduced the basic situation of Jinan University to Counselor Yao Cheng.

Zhang Hong said that Jinan University attaches great importance to Chinese education for overseas Chinese children. One of the main purposes of this trip is to actively communicate with local Chinese education institutions in Italy, seek to establish cooperative relations with them, and understand the difficulties and pain points of Chinese education institutions in running schools overseas, and hope to solve them through Jinan University's own resource advantages, and finally achieve the goal of promoting the development of overseas Chinese education.

In the afternoon, the delegation went to the seat of the Italian Overseas Chinese Trade Association to have a discussion with some responsible persons of Chinese education institutions, aiming at publicizing the preferential treatment provided by Jinan University for overseas Chinese enrollment and helping the development of overseas Chinese education.

At the meeting, Jinan University put forward a plan to develop adult education for overseas Chinese living in Italy, which was well received by the guests. Many overseas Chinese expressed their hope to participate in the adult education program of Jinan University and improve their abilities.
