Credit requirements for elective courses in Southern Medical University
Courses offered are divided into compulsory courses and elective courses.

(1) Compulsory courses account for about 70% of the total credits, and elective courses account for about 30% of the total credits. Specifically, the academic achievements stipulated in the teaching plan of each major shall prevail. (2) Four-year students must complete the extended elective course 16 credits, and five-year students must complete the extended elective course 18 credits. Among them, the credits for taking physical education courses shall not exceed 4 credits, students of arts, law and economics shall take at least 2 credits for natural science courses, 4 credits for life science courses, and students of other majors shall take at least 8 credits for humanities and social sciences courses.
