Foreign linguistics and applied linguistics are a two disciplines under the first-class discipline of foreign languages and literature. Guided by the basic assumptions of formal linguistics, this subject focuses on phonetics, syntax, formal semantics and language acquisition, and is also engaged in teaching and research in specific fields of applied linguistics. This major is the only foreign linguistics and applied linguistics major in China that can cover the four basic theoretical fields of formal linguistics (phonology, syntax, formal semantics and language acquisition).
