For more than twenty years, he has been engaged in the research of pattern recognition, neural network and statistical learning. According to the statistics of SCI-Expanded(SCI), the total number of academic papers cited exceeds 1500, while according to the statistics of Google Academic (GS), it exceeds 2500. The total citations of the first ten papers exceeded 900(SCI) and 1800(GS) respectively. The maximum cited number is 3 16(SCI) or 678(GS), and the other 9 articles are between 41-kloc-0/09 (sci) or 58- 178(GS). It has also been included or quoted by 30 foreign academic monographs or textbooks in Yu Ben. He was invited to give more than 40 conference reports/invited reports/academic lectures at major international academic conferences. He has won Tsinghua University Excellent Doctoral Thesis Award, China Automation Society 1988 Outstanding Young Thesis Award, 1988 Beijing Youth Science and Technology Award, 1988 Fok Yingdong Young Teacher Award of the First State Education Commission, 1993 Fourth Prize of National Natural Science, and 1995 Leader Award of International Neural Network Society.
