The school is based on the Department of Mandarin College founded by 1903, Zhonghua University founded by 19 12, private Huazhong University founded by 1924 and Zhongyuan University founded by 1949.

195 1, public Huazhong university was established; 1952 transformed into Huazhong normal university; 1953 was named Huazhong normal university; 1985 changed its name to Huazhong Normal University.

As of June, 2022, there are 33 first-level disciplines authorized by master's degree and 2 1 category authorized by master's degree. There are 2 1 first-level disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees, 0/category authorized for doctoral degrees, 0/8 post-doctoral research stations, and 0/post-doctoral research stations.

There are 3 national "double first-class" construction disciplines, 9 national key disciplines (including 1 cultivation disciplines), 5 dominant and characteristic disciplines (groups) in Hubei Province, and 22 first-class key disciplines in Hubei Province.

By June, 2022, there were more than 3,600 faculty members, including full-time teachers 1.900, including professors, associate professors 1.325 and doctoral supervisors 605. There are more than 80 senior professors in humanities and social sciences, national famous teachers and other national high-level talents.

There are 7 state-level teaching teams, 4 state-level virtual teaching and research sections and 9 famous teacher studios in Hubei Province. There are two excellent teacher training programs of the Ministry of Education, and two national ideological and political teachers and teaching teams.

Huazhong Normal University took the lead in putting forward the construction project of "National Experimental Zone for Comprehensive Reform of Teacher Education Innovation and Service" among normal colleges directly under the Ministry of Education, and was supported by the Ministry of Education.

Huazhong Normal University has signed a contract to build 29 experimental areas in the whole country 1 1 provinces and cities, with Beijing in the north, Hainan Island in the south, Qilu in the east and Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau in the west.

Chongyang County has built the first regional digital learning port for teacher education in China, which is jointly built by the subordinate normal university and the local government, and the cooperative business will be gradually extended to all experimental areas.
