In recent years, the University of Macau has undergone a comprehensive structural reform. In the Times Higher Education World University Ranking in 2020, the University of Macau ranks in the top 350. At the same time, the cooperation between Australian universities and top academic institutions at home and abroad is increasing. In addition, the University of Macau is the first local institution of higher learning awarded the Medal of Honor for Education by the SAR Government. The new campus has laid a solid foundation for the rise of the University of Macau as an internationally competitive higher education and research institution.

With the continuous development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Belt and Road Initiative, the University of Macau has entered an unprecedented period of development. From July 2065438 to July 2008, the Ministry of Science and Technology approved the establishment of "Smart City State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things" and "State Key Laboratory of Moon and Planetary Science" in Macau.
