The "2 1 1" project, that is, to build about 100 colleges and universities and a number of key disciplines in 2 1 century, is the largest and highest-level key construction work initiated by the state in the field of higher education since the founding of New China, and it is an important measure for the China government to implement the strategy of "rejuvenating the country through science and education".

Project 985 1998 was put forward at the conference to celebrate the 0/00th anniversary of the founding of Peking University. "In order to realize modernization, China should have a number of first-class universities with world-class standards." The first phase of the 985 Project was first implemented in Peking University and Tsinghua University.

Anhui University is a national "double-class" construction university. Anhui Provincial People's Government and Ministry of Education, Anhui Provincial People's Government and National Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense are key comprehensive universities in Anhui Province. In 1990s, after being selected as a national "2 1 1" construction university, it entered a new era.
